Please be aware that at times during the winter the ground, playground and surrounding footpaths can be very icy. Please do remind the children to take care coming to and leaving school. Parents and Carers are reminded to keep to the gritted footpaths around the perimeter of the school building at all times. It is imperative that pedestrians do not walk across the car park at any time. During icy weather the footpaths are gritted for your safety. Thank you
The season starts with Ash Wednesday on Wednesday 26th February. Please note we will have a service with readings and distribution of ashes at 9.15am.
Children from years 3 to 6 took part in swimming heats last night at TEC high school. They all performed to their very best and should be proud of their efforts. Our captain, Evie J, led the team very well and encouraged others. Many thanks to Mrs Cox and Mr Fowler for taking the children to the event and supervising them.
Alpha is a series of evenings with a meal, a video and a discussion for those interested in finding out about the Christian faith or to give your faith a boost. The next course will start in Lent on Monday evenings from the 2nd March 2020 from 7.30-9.00pm at the Sacred Heart Church. Please phone 01827 769403 and speak to Fr Michael or Fr Srinu or email firstname.lastname@example.org to book a place. Thank you.
The NSPCC guidelines for parents place a huge emphasis on the TEAM approach:
T - Talk to your child about what they are doing and how to stay safe online
E - Explore their accounts and behaviour online
You are the adult, you are in charge
M - Manage settings to keep your child safe
As a parent, can I speak plainly on this one?
It is tough and can cause world war 3 in the home, when you broach the subject and perhaps have to insist on certain time limits, use or non use of certain apps or games. But DO NOT AVOID the fact that despite the short term pain it is totally worth it in keeping your child safe. TAKE CONTROL AS ADULTS AND INSIST THAT YOUR CHILD FOLLOWS GUIDELINES FOR THEIR OWN SAFETY.
You would not leave your child alone anywhere in your home with a stranger without checking. Just be aware of chat rooms and the pitfalls. Thank you
Safer Internet Day
On Tuesday the children celebrated Safer Internet Day in school and took part in activities related to being safe and responsible online. Do speak to your children about what they have learnt about online safety and discuss how you can all be safe and responsible online at home. Thank you, Mr Fowler.
World Book Day – Thursday 5th March 2020
On Thursday 5th March 2020 we will be celebrating World Book Day. Children are invited to come to school wearing their pyjamas/ loungewear and bring their favourite book. Your child should have brought home a World Book Day home learning task this week, asking them to create a 'Book in a jar', which should be brought into school on Monday 2nd March for us to share on World Book Day. In each class a winner will be chosen to receive a book prize. Thank you, Mrs Hughes and Miss Cunningham.
Summer Fayre – Provisional date Friday 26th June 2020 @ 3.30pm-5.00pm
We need volunteers to come forward and commit to helping run this event this year. Please let members of the Friends of St. Gabriel’s committee know if you wish to get involved.
We need to get enough volunteers to ensure this event goes ahead. Thank you.
Please could I ask that you make sure you put your child’s name on their uniform. We have over 400 children all wearing similar jumpers. It can be very difficult to locate a misplaced item without a name.
The lost property trunk is once again full to the brim! The majority of the clothing is unnamed and therefore impossible to return. Parents/carers are always most welcome to check the Lost Property Trunk. We would encourage you to do this at the end of the day when you may also have the opportunity, if needed, to check the cloakroom area.
Please note that any unclaimed lost property will be donated to charity over half term. Thank you for your cooperation.
