8th September 2017
Dear Parents Volume 9 Number 1
Welcome back. To all our existing families, we hope you had a good summer. A special welcome to all new families in Reception and through the school. Thank you for the way the children have returned, eager to work hard and looking very smart in their uniform.
Holy Mass – Friday 8th September
Whole school Mass for the start of the school year, led by Year 6, will take place in the school hall. Parents and friends are invited. Fr Michael will lead Mass for us. Please be aware Fr. Michael is running the parish with just one priest, himself at the moment. The new Priest Fr. J.P has been delayed by visa problems. This may mean a reduction of availability of Fr. Michael at this time.
In line with all Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Birmingham, the staff and children will be continuing to focus on pairs of virtues. This term the children and staff will be growing to be ELOQUENT and TRUTHFUL in what they say of themselves, the relations between people and the world.
As a Catholic School, therefore voluntary aided, the Governor’s continue to rely on voluntary contributions towards the fund of money they have to complete projects around the school. As stated before, we have to find 10% of the funding towards any building projects. Some parents have become very good in consistently making a contribution. A number of families choose to pay more than this – thank you. At the moment, the Governing Body have a suggested amount of £30.00 per family, per year. Yes, times are tough at the moment. However, the Governors do not feel this is an unfair request. It is much less than some other local schools. Your donation will be most gratefully received and put to the next planned projects. More information on setting up a direct debit is available from the office. Alternatively payments of cash or cheque (cheques made payable to St. Gabriel’s Catholic Primary School) may be made directly to the school office. Thank you.
Orchestra may re-start after half term this year. Please look out for more information.

MacMillan Coffee Day – Friday 29th September – 2.30pm
This event is now very much part of our annual calendar. Please support this worthwhile cause by coming down a little earlier to the school hall, perhaps as part of your collecting arrangements on the day.
Message from Fr. Michael
If you are not a Catholic Read on. If you are a Catholic who has lost touch a little with your faith, also read on. Starting on Thursday Oct 5th at 7.30 we will be meeting every Thursday to look at our Christian faith and what it means to be a Catholic. All are welcome. We will start with some food. It will include a 25 minute ‘Alpha’ DVD (which is really well put together) and some time to discuss it. Invitations will be coming soon. If you are interested then Please email email@example.com Everyone is really welcome so just take the first step.
Open Evening at St. Francis of Assisi – Thursday 28th September at 7pm
Parents of Year 6 who will be considering secondary school choice in the next few weeks have the chance to view many local schools over the next few weeks. I would encourage ALL parents of any younger children to also start doing your research now. The Open Evening at St. Francis is open to the parents of any age group so please go along and experience our local Catholic Secondary School.
The Rotary Club of Tamworth have informed us that they sent off 61 backpacks which were donated by the children, parents and staff of St. Gabriel’s. They pass on their thanks and gratitude to everyone who donated. Thank you.
Thank you for respecting school’s request not to drive onto the car-park. Parking is not allowed in front of the school gates. Yellow lines and zig zags outside school are there to protect all of our children. They are there to STOP people from parking so that the children are safe. Please never park up on the footpaths or grass verges in the surrounding roads. Please also show consideration to local home owners and do not block garages and driveways. Local Community Wardens and PCSO’s continue to operate locally and will issue tickets where appropriate.
Parking will continue to be available at Belgrave Club - We have been informed that from September 2017 the club will continue to offer the facility of parking for parents/guardians. We expect to have more information to share with you next week - including this year’s annual cost and how/when you may purchase a parking pass. Thank you for your understanding and co-operation.
Please be aware and ready to support a workshop for each year group in school before half term in October. This will focus on a key aspect of work in the year group and will give you information you otherwise wouldn’t have. More information will follow in a separate letter. Thank you.
