6th July, 2017
We are about to embark on the next stage of our pre-school development, which is the construction of a new extension comprising of an additional learning room, two toilets and a small storage cupboard. The extension will provide additional capacity, for the pre-school to offer more places to children in the local and surrounding areas.
The Government made a commitment to support working families if they meet the stipulated criteria, an offer of 30 hours paid childcare a week. To facilitate this and the demand for places at St. Gabriel’s Pre-School, we need more space in order to participate in this initiative.
On the very last day of the academic year 22nd July, 2016, just as we were finishing for the summer holiday we received an email from Staffordshire County Council, offering nurseries and pre-school the opportunity to apply for Capital Funding. So over the summer holiday, with a deadline to work to as the application needed to be submitted by the 26th August, 2016, the Voluntary Management Group, Mrs Miller and myself needed to appoint an architect, apply for planning, research statistics and write risk assessments.
Capital Funding is needed for this project as we are a non-profit organisation. The only payments we receive are the NEF Funding payments, payments from patents and through donations and fundraising events.
On the 10th March, 2017, we finally received a telephone call informing us that our application had been successful. Our legal agreement document arrived on the 7th June, 2017, confirming St. Gabriel’s Pre-school is the ‘Grant Recipient’ of Capital Funding.
In order to facilitate the new building the work will need to be carried out over the summer holiday, the builders will arrive On Monday 17th July, to set up, so we will close for children on Wednesday 19th July, 2017. This will be the last day for the children.
We are very excited at the prospect of this new building and the additional space.
