St. Gabriel's Catholic Primary School

Year 1 Celebration of Work

The children have thoroughly enjoyed our class text 'The Disgusting Sandwich' by Gareth Edwards. We have used this book to learn about writing a set of instructions to make their own sandwich. All children designed their own sandwich and wrote a list of what they needed.  Through our DT lesson, we have thought about what equipment we would need to make the sandwiches and what hygiene requirements we would need to consider. We made our own sandwiches, have a look at our pictures. We then evaluated the finished sandwich and ate half of it. With the other half, we took the sandwich on a journey outside to different disgusting places: just like Badger's sandwich in the story. The children had lots of fun making their sandwich 'disgusting'.

We have been learning about instructions. On Friday, we ordered a set of instructions to make a sock puppet. Then during the afternoon we listened to and followed these instructions to make our own sock puppet. Look at some of our sock puppets. They are super!

Year 1 are really enjoying our daily 'reading for pleasure'. On Tuesday, we listened to a book called 'Gordon the Monkey in Cold Ears' written by our very own Cerys in year 6. Thank you Cerys, year 1 children loved the story.
