Pupil Voice

Pupil Voice – Spring 2021

Pupil Voice and the views of our children are very important to us. This is especially true during the current Covid19 pandemic. The children’s classteachers spoke to children who had been in school during the most recent national lockdown to hear more about their experiences.

Below is a sample of the children’s responses:

Early Years and Key Stage One

How have the adults in school helped to keep you safe?

The teachers tell us the rules.

Our tables have been moved apart.

They clean our tables so we don’t get germs.

They help us to keep away from each other so we are 2 metres apart.

They give us our own equipment so we don’t touch other people’s things.

Adults wear masks around school.

The kitchen staff give us our food in our own boxes in our own classrooms.

They talk to us about rules for keeping safe – washing hands properly, Catch it, Bin it, Kill it and Hands, Face, Space.

They keep windows and doors open so that we have fresh air.

They help us to stay away from other bubbles.

How are you and other children helping keep school safe?

We wash our hands when we sneeze or cough.

We try to keep 2 metres apart.

We stay in our own area.

We don’t touch other people or their things.

We use our own equipment.

We don’t bring lots of things in from home – just what we need.

We follow the arrows on the floor so we don’t get too close to each other.

We wash our hands with soap for 20 seconds and make sure they are dry.

Learning this term. What topics/learning have you been doing? What have you enjoyed? What have you found most difficult?

I enjoy reading books and doing my sounds.

Learning new tricky words was tricky!

I loved The Tiger Who Came to Tea and all the work we did writing our own stories.

I loved The Disgusting Sandwich story and making our own sandwiches.

I loved learning about Jesus’ miracles and parables.

Learning to count in twos.

I loved learning subtraction on a number-line.

I liked playing different counting games.

We have been learning all about Lent and learning the ‘O My God’ prayer.

We should give something up for Lent for 40 days and 40 nights.

What’s been different about school this term and what has been the same?

We listen to each other.

We are 2 metres apart.

We’ve still learnt different things every day.

Some children come to school on some days but stay at home on other days.

When I’m at home I see my teachers on the laptop.

Key Stage Two

How have the adults in school helped to keep you safe?

By reminding us not to mix bubbles and by keeping us separate from other bubbles.

The floor is taped to show where to walk.

If we looked upset asked us how we are.

Explaining about COVID19 and how we can protect ourselves.

We come in P.E kits so we don’t have to get changed.

At playtime we are not allowed to play “touch” games.

How are you and other children helping keep school safe?

We remind each other to keep distance.

If there is a group of children in the cloakroom we wait for it to become less crowded.

We don’t have break times at the same time as other year groups.

We eat our lunch in the classroom and not in the hall

We are washing our hands regularly.

We are keeping 2 metre distance when we can.

We keep out of other people’s bubbles.

Learning this term. What topics/learning have you been doing? What have you enjoyed? What have you found most difficult?

I have enjoyed learning maths – cm, mm, metres and sports.

We have been learning how to keep fit and using the superhero videos.

We wrote our own liturgies for family fast day. We learnt about Ash Wednesday.

My teacher helps me still and makes the lesson fun.

We have all enjoyed reading Hugo Cabret and watching the film.

I have enjoyed doing the experiments in science - we did Bottoms, Burps and Bile and learnt about the digestive system using the 6-part story. We loved doing the teeth experiment too.

I have enjoyed Spanish and learning a different language.

We have learnt about: relative clauses; adverbs to show degrees of possibility; summarising a text and revising sentence structure.

What’s been different about school this term and what has been the same?

We have had TEAMs meetings with the rest of the class.

We have lunch in our classroom.

There are markers on the floor around school to show us where we need to walk.

We have the same lessons as the children at home

We are still in the classroom with our teacher

We still have the same subjects

We will also be completing Pupil Voice with our children who have been working remotely shortly and will share their responses here.
