DT at St Gabriel's

Intent:
Design and Technology is an inspiring and practical subject, encouraging children to learn to think creatively to solve problems both as individuals and as members of a team. At St Gabriel’s Catholic Primary School, our intent is that children enjoy a Design and Technology curriculum which enables them to exercise their creativity and imagination through designing, making and evaluating their products, considering their own and other's needs, wants and values. Through our Cornerstones Curriculum, our intent is that our children will be taught to use a range of equipment, materials and skills safely, to prepare them in becoming practical, creative and resourceful problem solvers and to provide them with a strong foundation in developing key life skills.

The National Curriculum for Design and Technology aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • Develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world.
  • Build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users.
  • Critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others.
  • Understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook.
