14th September 2017                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Volume 9 Number 2 Dear Parents                                                                                                                               LEAVE OF ABSENCE IN TERM TIME – PLEASE NOTE CAREFULLY Please be aware that we are still administering leave of absence requests during term time and the consideration of penalty notices under the interim criteria and guidance from the County Council (issued in July 2016) and as per our published Attendance Policy Following the ruling on the Isle of Wight Council v Platt case we are expecting new guidance from the authority in the next couple of weeks   This new guidance is expected to come into effect from January of 2018   We will advise you when we have further information to clarity the position of Staffordshire County Council Current guidance is as follows:- Penalty Notices for leave in term time may be considered appropriate if the following criteria is met: For unauthorised leave of absence, there must be a minimum of 20 sessions (10 school days) of unauthorised absence from school during the period of two consecutive half-terms (this being the half-term we are currently in plus the previous half-term) This absence must include at least 10 sessions (5 days) of unauthorised leave in the specified time period for leave of absence for a holiday, however, the remaining 10 sessions (5 days) may relate to other unauthorised absence   The absences do not have to be consecutive Persistent late arrival at school after the register is closed, in the current and previous term   ‘Persistent’ means at least 20 sessions of late arrival
