Welcome to the Year 3.
Year 3 is a very important year in school because it is the children’s transition from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2. We aim to encourage and nurture an increase in your child’s independent skills as they move into Key Stage 2. We teach through the use of the curriculum maestro topics to make your child’s experience of school as exciting as possible and to hook them into learning a range of subjects through a mutual theme. This enriches the children’s understanding of the purpose and context of their learning enabling them to make links between subjects, which in turn will help your child to know more and remember more.
In Year 3 we learn through the topics:
- Scrumdidliumptious
- Flow
- Tribal Tales
- Heroes, Villains and Mighty Metals
- Urban Pioneers
- Gods and Mortals
There is more information about each of these topics in the curriculum maps below.
During Year 3, you will have the opportunity to take part in the blessed sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion, which we will be honoured to guide you through. All of your child’s learning in Year 3 is rooted in the gospel virtues.
About Miss Caswell – Class Teacher
I am an avid reader and have been given the exciting opportunity to revamp the school library this year! My favourite children’s book is The Abominables by Eva Ibbotson and I highly recommend you giving it a try, let me know what you think! I love to keep active and P.E is one of my favourite lessons of the week. Another highlight of the week is singing hymns and praising God through our class prayers.
About Mrs Holmes- Class Teacher
I also love reading and I hope you catch the reading bug from Miss Caswell and I! My favourite children’s book is Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J. K. Rowling and dependent on your interests, we may get chance to read the book together during our Heroes and Villains topic. I enjoy art, music and drama and I hope to get you up and involved in these activities with me. My favourite part of the week is our whole class collective worship, where we take a few minutes to reflect and focus on God and how we can make a positive difference in the world.
